The Tyre Collective — Design Lead Role
The Tyre Collective is a pioneering clean-tech company that began as a master’s project at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art, focusing on reducing air pollution in cities by capturing, analysing and recycling rubber particles from vehicle tires. My fixed term role here was for a specialised project, which involved designing, physically developing and road testing various pollution capturing devices.

Many sources of air pollution are tied directly to urban cities. However, the level of information available on air quality is quite low, compromising how aware the public are to the dangers they face daily.
Existing solutions can provide information on air quality. However, current products have limits on how beneficial or easy to understand the information is.
Aero is a portable air monitor with multiple ways to carry, allowing it to stay with the user throughout the day, providing useful real-time information in all the locations that they visit, such as at home, at work or while commuting.
Sensors monitor key pollutants. Aero uses their readings to create an overall air rating, which is displayed on the device using a ring that changes colour depending on how clean the air is.
Aero conveys information concisely through the LED ring and colour system. Users can easily understand air quality by the ring that changes colours, depending on how clean the air is.
An app works alongside Aero to provide more detailed information and insights on the users day. It also provides actionable advice to reduce exposure to pollutants.
